During periods of peak demand, we’ll raise the temperature of your thermostat to a warmer, but comfortable, setting temporarily. Most adjustments take place between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. on weekdays and typically last about four hours.
Using less energy when the demand for electricity is at its highest helps reduce strain on the energy grid and ensure everyone has safe and reliable power.

Smart thermostats generally work with most standard HVAC systems, including conventional forced-air and heat pumps. However, some systems, like those with multiple stages or boilers, require specific thermostat features. Please see your system's manual or talk to a professional to see if your HVAC system is smart thermostat compatible.
Energy savings, if any, depend on your usage habits. However, Con Edison will cover the initial $85 cost of purchasing a smart thermostat.
If you're comfortable with basic wiring, installing a smart thermostat should only take 20-30 minutes to install. However, we recommend you hire a professional to ensure safe installation and to avoid any product warranty issues.
Consistent with our Privacy Policy, we collect and use information from programs in which you voluntarily participate. Your participation in the program gives Con Edison permission to use your information for program purposes, including to offer, enable, manage your participation in, provide support for, and improve the program.
Who is my information shared with? We will share your information with third-party service providers in connection with program purposes. A third-party service provider will validate that you should be awarded the $85 per enrolled thermostat program rebate that you may be eligible to receive, and the $25 per thermostat incentive that you can be awarded for participating in fifty percent of event hours starting in your third season of participation in the program. Your information may be retained by the third-party service provider for up to four years to validate your status to be awarded the $25 per thermostat annual incentive.
Your information shared for program purposes consists of your name, email address, service address, Con Edison account number, thermostat serial number, activation date, account status, runtime data, temperature and humidity sensor data, set-points, device usage and technical data, and details related to your program eligibility, enrollment and participation in the program. We store and safeguard your information consistent with our Privacy Policy, and you can contact Con Edison at any time to ask that your information be removed from our storage systems. Your participation in the program remains entirely voluntary. Your information will be retained only to the extent necessary to fulfill program objectives.
* Limit 12 $85 rebates per household for enrollment. After enrolling, you’ll receive a confirmation email and an $85 rebate check from us within six to eight weeks.
